Adnan Samman is a visual and audio artist from Syria. His work mainly deals with nostalgia and attempts to create alternative narratives on the Middle East and North Africa through digital means, particularly photo manipulation and collage. Adnan’s work crossed borders to realize well-received exhibitions in cities such as London, Dubai, Cairo, Antwerp and Santa Fe. From Central Saint Martins to Villa Vigoni, his art proved to question taboos and evoke curiosity about the Arab world.
In late 2018, Adnan founded the platform Syria Before 2011 to preserve and document Syria’s modern history before the conflict through handpicked photographs, mostly taken by travelers.
عدنان سمان هو فنان بصري وسمعي من سوريا. يعالج عمله مواضيع كالغربة والحنين إلى الماضي، محاولاً بذلك خلق صور وروايات بديلة عن الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا عن طريق الوسائل الرقمية والكولاج. اجتازت أعمال عدنان الحدود لتصل إلى معارض مميزة في مدن كلندن، دبي، القاهرة، عمّان، باليرمو، أنتويرب وغيرها. أثارت بعض الأعمال جدلاً في الأوساط المحلية وفضولاً حول العالم العربي لدى أوساط أخرى
